Why do people still watch TV or the media, Strauss Khan case?

The media is run by a person like a corporation..So why do people base there truths on these organizations like msnbc, foxnews, cnn, washington post etc.. Why not alternative news from the common person.. Example look at the Strauss Khan case.. When it happened i knew he was set up just to get him out of his job...but all media outlets played it over and over again to discredit him and now they say there is no strong case.. How dumb are people who cant see through all of this.. its like WWE on national and international stage.
